St. Thomas Episcopal
Church
Location: Hanover, NH
Description: The congregation that worships
in this nineteenth century stone church has long felt that the support
spaces have been inadequate. A feasibility study confirmed that
essential functions could be expanded within the limitations of the downtown
side. Haynes & Garthwaite Architects has worked as associate
with Richard Monahon Jr. of Peterborough, NH. We were responsible
for the development of schematic designs that illustrated a wide range
of programmatic complexity and identified the related budget. Our
involvement has continued with the facilitation of the permitting process,
and assisting with the development of the design to reflect the desires
of the staff and congregation. Renovations
to the sanctuary include a new organ and a simplified chancel layout. Support
spaces include a new parish hall, administrative space, christian education
classrooms and a choir room that all together will allow for the expansion
of the nember of services on Sunday mornings and provide a variety of
spaces for the active congregation.
